In my years of practicing as a doctor (GP), I have endeavored to keep abreast of updates and novel procedures and technologies available in medicine to offer my patients best benefit. With changes in technology and aesthetic medicine, I see different trends and needs that arise when consulting with my patients. Technology like the Morpheus8, perfectly suits a patient who is looking for a more youthful version of themselves. This technology enhances our patients own natural, youthful results.

Combining radio-frequency with micro-needling in a device like the Morpheus8 for facial and body rejuvenation, is an effective way of achieving results of a high standard. Radio-frequency (RF) treatments have gained popularity in facial aesthetics as a minimally invasive method for skin tightening and rejuvenation. This technique utilizes electromagnetic waves to heat the dermis, stimulating collagen production, which is crucial for maintaining skin elasticity and firmness. It is combined with micro-needling with gold-plated needles to further enhance the collagen stimulation with minimal complications or downtime. This combination affords my patients maximum benefit from the procedure in 1-3 sessions to target fine lines, laxity, and enlarged pores.

Mechanism of Action

These radio-frequency treatments work by applying controlled radio-frequency energy to the skin, heating it to a required temperature. This process targets the deeper layers of the skin (the dermis) while keeping the outer layer cool, which enhances the effectiveness of collagen stimulation without damaging the epidermis. As collagen production increases, the skin becomes firmer, reducing the appearance of wrinkles and sagging skin.

Benefits and Effectiveness

The primary benefits of radio-frequency include:

  • Skin Tightening: RF treatments can effectively tighten skin on the face and neck, making them a popular choice for those looking to combat signs of aging without surgery.

  • Collagen Stimulation: By promoting collagen and elastin production, RF therapy helps improve skin texture and elasticity over time.

  • Minimal Downtime: Unlike more invasive procedures, RF treatments typically involve little downtime, allowing patients to return to their daily activity soon after treatment.

  • Suitability for Various Skin Types: RF treatments are generally safe for a wide range of skin types, with minimal side effects compared to surgery or laser treatments.

Treatment Protocol

A typical RF session lasts between 30 minutes to an hour, and a series of treatments is required (usually 1-3 for face when combined with micro-needling) for optimal results. Initial improvements may be noticeable after the first session, but the most significant results usually develop over several weeks as collagen remodeling occurs.

Possible Side Effects

While RF treatments are considered safe, some patients may experience mild side effects such as redness, swelling, or a warm sensation in the treated area. These effects are usually temporary and resolve quickly.

Comparison with Other Treatments

RF treatments differ from other skin rejuvenation techniques such as microcurrent facials and chemical peels:

  • Micro-current Facials: Focus on stimulating facial muscles using low-level electrical currents, primarily affecting surface-level skin rather than deeper structural changes.

  • Deep Chemical Peels: Involve applying acids to exfoliate the skin's surface, which can lead to longer recovery times and may not be suitable for all skin types.

In summary, radio-frequency facials represent a promising option for individuals seeking minimally invasive facial rejuvenation, offering benefits in skin tightening and collagen stimulation with minimal downtime and side effects.

Tailor made solutions

After an assessment of the face or body, I will take the problem areas and skin concerns into consideration, whether it is tissue laxity on the face or neck, or laxity on the tummy or thighs, stretch marks or abdominal scars. A tailor made plan is then formulated with radiofrequency and micro-needling in combination with other treatment modalities and home skincare to compliment the procedure. By working closely with my patients and understanding their needs me team and I strive to deliver optimal results with long-term benefits.
